==Plot overview==
A young orphan, Lin witnessed the death of her parents (and an older brother in the anime) during the nuclear war and lost the ability to speak due to the shock. In the beginning of the series, she lives in a small village in which Kenshiro arrives. He restores her voice and later saves her from Zeed after his gang attacks the village. Lin becomes infatuated with him and leaves to search for him. She is rescued again by Ken from the Golan commandos(Club's men in the TV series) and becomes one of the main characters for the remainder of the series.

After the time-skip following Raoh's defeat, she and Bat form the Hokuto Army during Kenshiro's abscent to fight off the regime of the Central Imperial Capital. It is revealed that she was adopted as a child, and that she is actually the daughter of the Celestial Emperor along with her twin sister Lui, the current Empress. After Kenshiro defeats Jakō, Lin is kidnapped and taken to the Land of Asura, leading to the Asura arc. Kenshiro rescues her from the demons of Asura, telling her to return to her sister (Lui) and the man she loves (believing he is Bat). However, she reveals her true feelings about Kenshiro and decides to stay in Asura to follow him. Kaioh eventually captures her and as a gesture of mockery, pushes the pressure point Shikanhaku, which causes its victims to fall in love with the first person they see after regaining consciousness. After Kaioh's defeat, she falls in love with Bat as a result of Shikanhaku. It should be noted that if in the anime she wears for the full duration of the series her Hokuto Army marked outfit, in the manga she's forced to drop it during captivity in Asura, and she wears a light robe. During the final story arc, Bat becomes upset at this fact and erases Lin's memories with his limited Hokuto Shinken knowledge. After Kenshiro loses his memory during a thunderstorm, he arranges the two to live together. However, both Lin and Kenshiro regain their memories when Bat is seriously injured during his fight with Bolge, a villain from Ken's past. In the end, she finally recognizes Bat's feelings and chooses to be with him out of her free will rather than Ken.
