Joker first confronted Ken when he was ordered to stay behind Shin's old hideout while Shin relocated his gang to Southern Cross. Joker attempted to kill Ken by burning down Shin's old castle with Ken still inside, a plan which ended in failure. Afterward, Joker devised a plot with Jackal to trick Devil's Rebirth into fighting Ken. When that didn't work, Joker arranged a truce between two rival gangs, the Snakes and the Scorpions, so they could work together in fighting Ken, a plan which also failed.
