Asam (アサム, Asamu): The King of Sava and master of Daijō Nan Ken (大乗南拳, "Southern Fist of Mahayana"). He is the father of three sons, Kai, Bukoh and Satora, and one daughter, Sara. A prophet once warned him that his sons were born under different stars and this discord would bring ruin to the kingdom. The prophet implored Asam to choose one heir and kill the other sons but Asam refused to betray his fatherly love and killed the prophet in his anger. To prevent the prophecy coming true, he raised his three sons equally. However, they only grew to have the same stubborn ambition for the throne and Asam feared the kingdom would descend into civil war. With time running out due to illness, Asam hired Kenshiro to defeat his three sons and bring their conflict to an end.

In the meantime, he travels to the mountains and slaughters the barbarian hordes and their leader, Hyūmo, with the last of his strength. He spends his last moments reunited with his three sons, who learned to put aside their differences and live in peace thanks to Kenshiro.
