Buro (ブロウ)[1] was a thug from the village of Oasis who caused a ruckus at Johnny's bar after he was denied a free meal.

    Appearance

He is a large, muscular man with a bulky body, short dark hair styled into a topknot (colored red in the anime) and full lips.

He wears a pair of suspenders with pouches on them, vambraces, a simple pair of pants as well as a pair of knee high boots.

    Personality

He is a brutish individual who likes to eat, and is willing to push others around for food.

He also has a prideful personality, as he has a lot of confidence in his strength, and was offended easily when Bat insulted him, and was also so humiliated when Ken defeated him and took away his strength that he dejectedly walked away while crying.

    Abilities

He claims to be extremely strong, and there is some truth to that claim as he is able to crush a car by slamming his fists into it, and was also introduced as bursting through a wall, showing that not only is there some validity to his boasts, but he also posssesses an incredible amount of durability as well. Despite this, Kenshiro was able to effortlessly overpower and defeat him.

    Manga & TV Series

Kenshiro and Bat saw the commotion during their first visit to Oasis. Ken weakened the thug's muscle strength by striking his arms with the "Iron Muscle Severing Kick" (鋼筋分断脚, Gōkin Bundan Kyaku), leaving Buro with barely enough strength to earn his meals with honest work, much to Buro's dismay. This makes Buro one of the few "giant thugs" to survive an encounter with Kenshiro. The fact that Ken did not kill him likely means that he saw a chance that Buro might actually make an honest living.

    Notes

    • In the English dub of the anime, Kenshiro simply tells Buro that both of his arms have been permanently disabled instead of saying his strength has been halved.
    • In Hokuto no Ken 3, a game original character who replaced Ren, Tawaba (after the popular death cry) uses a sprite based on Buro.
