Rei was hired by the Fang Clan to infiltrate Mamiya's village as one of its bodyguards. However, Rei betrayed them and helped Kenshiro thwart them off, believing it would be wiser to side with the stronger side. Afterwards, Rei went to the hideout of the Fangs with Ken and Mamiya to defeat their leader. However, the Fangs had managed to capture Airi from her previous captors and used her as leverage to coerce Rei into fighting Ken for them. However, Rei and Ken managed to trick the Fang Clan by striking each other's vital points at the same time, placing both of them in a temporary false state of death. After the Fang Clan was defeated, Rei was reunited with Airi.
Rei would become one of Kenshiro's most trusted allies. He exposed Amiba's true identity at the Village of Miracles and accompanied Kenshiro to the city of Cassandra, where the real Toki was imprisoned. Although Toki was saved, Rei was forced to rush back to Mamiya's village when he learned that Ken-Oh's army began to mobilize his troops. Rei fought the leader of the invasion squad and then challenged Raoh himself to a fight. However, Rei was defeated and struck in the vital point Shinketsushū sentencing him to three agonizing days to live.

Fist Of The North Star (1986 Movie)

Rei's first appearance is simular to the anime and manga, but only deals with one bandit. He then goes to a nearby town and asks the bandits raiding and executing the villagers where the man with the seven scars is. (In the english version, he asks where he can find the man known as Fist Of The North Star). After killing the bandits instead of executing a villagers, Kenshiro arrives and tells him that the man he is looking for is Jagi, just as he punches and destroys the statue. Rei and Kenshiro team up and head for Jagi's fortress to confront him and also recue Airi, who is still Jagi's slave. Rei witnesses the power of Hokuto Shinken during Kenshiro and Mr. Heart's short fight. The two men enter the fortress and confront Jagi holding Airi captive, this time he tells Rei he will let her go if he kills Kenshiro. Just as Rei was about to attack him, Kenshiro immediatetly stops and convinces him that it was a trickl that will get them both killed. While Kenshiro deals with Jagi on the rooftop, Rei kills his men to get to Airi, who cannot recognise him due to her blindness and also not recognising his voice, so refers him as his new master, much to Rei's dismay. After killing Jagi, Kenshiro uses Hokuto Shinken to restore Airi's mind, but this time cannot restore her eye sight. It was only the plant Lin brought along from Kenshiro that Airi regained her eye sight, and she and Rei become reunited. Rei would then join Kenshiro on his journey as a way of repaying him for all the help he did. Kenshiro would then leave Bat and Lin in Rei's care while he goes to recue Yuria from Shin. The three of them travel the wasteland while waiting for Kenshiro, and they would soon arrive at Cassandra where Lin witness Yuria captured by Raoh. After Bat and Lin secretly meet Yuria in her cell and gave her Lin's plant, the next day Raoh holds an execution for her unless the person who gave her the plant comes forth. To protect Yuria from execution, Rei sacrifices his life to fight Raoh in Kenshiro's absence. He easily defeats Uighur, and before fighting Raoh, he tells Lin to take care of herself as there is a new world waiting for her. Before fighting Rei tries to provoke Raoh to get of his horse, but Raoh at the same time provokes him to charge at him which he does. Rei effortlessly tried to attack Raoh but is unable to touch him, which let Rei to use his ultimate attact to hit him, Raoh seeing this, throws his cloak at his face to distract him and stabs him with his finger. Instead of Dying a horrible death in three day, Rei dies immediatly just as Kenshiro arrived, but he had enough strengh to tell Kenshiro to defeat Raoh for the sake of the children, for Yuria, and for the ones he loves dear to him.

After rescuing Mamiya from Medicine City, Rei learned that she was once one of Yuda's captives before she escaped and became the leader of her village. Swearing to avenge Mamiya's honor, Rei dedicated his remaining days to tracking down Yuda. However, Yuda managed to elude his pursuit, leaving Rei's struggle in vain. This was until Toki extended Rei's lifespan for another day by striking the vital point Shinreidai, which had the side-effect of transforming his hair white. Rei entered the final showdown with Yuda, and after a treacherous fight, he defeated Yuda with the technique Hishō Hakurei, the Soaring White Splendor.
