Ryuga is the master of Taizan Tenrō Ken (泰山天狼拳, "Taishan Celestial Wolf Fist"), a fast and cruel style which severs flesh from the victim's body, inflicting a cold sensation before death. He is represented by the Tenrō-sei (天狼星) or solitary star of Sirius; the Lone Wolf, and the brightest star in the night sky.
Despite his destiny as a lone wolf, Ryuga was destined serve Hokuto during chaotic times. Ryuga believed his loyalty lied with Ken-Oh, whose iron fist sought to oppress the people and establish order, but nevertheless he remained curious of Kenshiro's compassionate ways. In order to test Kenshiro's potential and provoke him into battle, Ryuga went on a manic killing spree and attacked Toki, who was already dying. Kenshiro awakened his rage and defeated Ryuga, who felt the true power of his fist. After the fight, the wounded Toki appeared and revealed that Ryuga had already committed kagebara (ritual disembowelment) before the fight to atone for his sins. It was also revealed that he was the older brother of Kenshiro's beloved, Yuria. With his final breath, Ryuga declared that it would be Kenshiro, and not Raoh, who would save the world.
