Titles
Throughout the various translations of Hokuto no Ken into English, one of the most confusing things is the way characters' titles are translated. Often very vague and generic terms like "Emperor" and "King" are thrown around for multiple characters. The original manga uses many specific terms.
- Chiō (智王 King of Wisdom): Used by Gion
- Chishō (智将 Resourceful General): Used by Ryuroh
- Gaō (我王 Self King): Gaoh
- Gen'ō (玄王 Profound King): Used by Sarim
- Gokuchō (獄長 Warden): Used by Uighur
- Gunshirei (郡指令 Area Governor): Used by Bask, Geira, and Zongu
- Gunshō (郡将 District General): Used by Kaiser and Cain
- Ken'ō (拳王 King of Fists): Used by Raoh
- King (キング): Shin
- Kiō (鬼王 Demon King): Used by Goram
- Kōtei (皇帝 Emperor): Used by the ancient ruler of the Nanto Rokusei Ken, the ruler that forbade Rakan Niō Ken, and Aisin-Gioro Puyi.
- Kōtei (光帝 Emperor of Light): Used by Baran
- Kuhōgan (狗法眼 Dog Dharma Eye): Used by Galf.
- Kyokuō (棘王 Thorn King): Used by Haderu.
- Meiō (冥王 King of Hades): Meioh
- Raitei (雷帝 Thunder Emperor): Used by Raizu
- Rasetsu (羅刹 Rakshasa): Used by Shachi
- Rashō (羅将 Asura General): Used by Han, Hyoh, and Kaioh
- Rōshi (老師 Old Master): Used by Roshi
- Ryūtei (龍帝 Dragon Emperor): Used by Amon
- Seitei (聖帝 Holy Emperor): Used by Souther
- Shishiō (獅子王 Lion King): Used by Igor
- Shō (将 General): Used by each of the Nanto Rokusei Ken
- Sōtoku (総督 Viceroy or Governor-general): Used by Jakō
- Tentei (天帝 Emperor of Heaven): Used by Lui, and occasionally Lin.
- Tettei (鉄帝 Iron Emperor): Used by Jadam
