: Shuren is a member of the [[Nanto Goshasei]] and leader of the Crimson Army. He uses a special martial art which manipulates phosphorous to destroy adversaries with deadly flames.

: After the death of [[Hyūi]], his "brother star", Shuren mobilizes his Crimson Army against [[Raoh|Ken-Oh's]] forces to exact his revenge. Shuren pre-emptively ambushes Ken-Oh's army by launching innumerable arrows at them as they approach the valley. Afterwards, Shuren fights against two of Ken-Oh's best trained warriors before challenging the man himself. Shuren launches himself at Ken-Oh head-on but has an arm and leg shattered in the process. With one final attempt, Shuren engulfs himself in flames and performs a kamikaze attack. However, this is futile before Raoh's strength, who breaks his neck and leaves his dead body to burn to ashes.

: In the anime series, Shuren holds a funeral pyre for his fallen comrade Hyūi by burning down his castle to ensure there is no turning back for him and his army in their upcoming battle with Ken-Oh. He also fights against one of Ken-Oh's invasion forces before challenging the main army.
