- Shuren is a member of the Nanto Goshasei and leader of the Crimson Army. He uses a special martial art which manipulates phosphorous to destroy adversaries with deadly flames.
- After the death of Hyūi, his "brother star", Shuren mobilized his Crimson Army against Ken-Oh's forces to exact his revenge. Shuren pre-emptively attacked Ken-oh's army by launching innumerable arrows at them as they approached the valley. Afterwards, Shuren fought against two of Ken-Oh's best trained warriors before challenging the man himself. Shuren launched himself at Ken-Oh, however both his right hand and right leg were shattered in vain. With one last stand, Shuren engulfed himself in flames and performed a kamikaze attack. However, this was futile in the face of Raoh's strength, who twisted Shuren's neck and crushed his head into ashes.
TV Series
- In the anime series, Shuren holds a funeral pyre for his fallen comrade Hyūi by burning down his castle to ensure there is no turning back for him and his army in their upcoming battle with Ken-Oh.
- He also fights against one of Ken-Oh's invasion forces before challenging the main army.
Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken
- In the OVA Yuria Den, Shuren teams up with Fudoh and Hyūi in their mission to capture Rei for the Last Nanto General.
- In Raoh Den: Gekitō no Shō, there is a shorter version of Shuren's fight with Raoh. He launches a fireball at Raoh before flying at him head-on. Raoh easily deflects the attack, causing Shuren to explode into flames.
