There seems to be some dispute about Kenshiro and Shin's relationship in the original manga. As far I know, Kenshiro calls him "a rival who became a friend" during the Jagi arc. Everything about them being close friends who grew up like brothers etc. was invented for the TV series and 1986 movie. Endofcentury 08:53, August 16, 2010 (UTC)

That's not exactly true. The TV series doesn't dwell much on Ken and Shin's mutual past other than what was originally shown in the manga (even Jagi's past was more fleshed in the anime). The movie does embellish Ken and Shin's friendship, but it really amount to nothing more than a throwaway line during the Jagi fight. In Raijin Comics' translation of Chapter 43, Ken's exact line to Jagi was "worthy rivals, I called friends" and Jagi immediately recognizes he's talking about Shin. Even in the early chapters (like in the flashback in Chapter 8), it's sort of implied that Ken and Shin were somewhat close, what with Shin knowing Ryuken as well. That's my point. In the manga, Shin is considered a 'friend' (tomo) in the same way as Souther, Ryuga etc: Worthy rivals who won his respect in battle. If anything, Shin was an acquaintance, at best. Case in point: When Kenshiro finds Southern Cross to be a slave camp he says "Only he (Shin) could create a place like this!" Hardly how you'd refer to an old friend, whether they decided to betray you or not. Endofcentury 11:26, August 24, 2010 (UTC)

True, but the TV series never delves much into Ken and Shin's common past prior to Shin's kidnapping of Yuria. There's a throwaway line in the film version where Ken says that he and Shin grew up like brother, but it only in occurs in the movie, not the TV series. Arkhound 04:53, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Since the manga is the point of reference for the wiki, the embellishment of their friendship should be kept within the context of the TV series/movie adaptation. I'd prefer Shin to be referred to as an acquaintance/rival in the main segment, because the manga never intimated anything else. Endofcentury 20:03, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Killed by Kenshiro

I see that someone has returned Shin to the category 'Characters killed by Kenshiro'. I still believe this should be disputed, as although Shin was mortally wounded by Kenshiro during their fight, he ultimately took his own life from the balcony. Endofcentury (talk) 13:45, August 25, 2014 (UTC)
