- Hakuri (ハクリ Hakuri)
- A former soldier of Ken-Oh, he raised the orphaned Ryu with his wife. However, when his wife and several other villagers became ill with an infectious disease, they quarantined themselves in a mountain retreat. Hakuri went to care for his wife and grow crops, leaving Ryu in the custody of Riseki. The land baron, Kouketsu, sent his men to secure the cultivated land and launched an arson attack on the diseased village, killing Hakuri and his wife.
