There seems to be some dispute about Kenshiro and Shin's relationship in the original manga. As far I know, Kenshiro calls him "a rival who became a friend" during the Jagi arc. Everything about them being close friends who grew up like brothers etc. was invented for the TV series and 1986 movie. Endofcentury 08:53, August 16, 2010 (UTC)

That's not exactly true. The TV series doesn't dwell much on Ken and Shin's mutual past other than what was originally shown in the manga (even Jagi's past was more fleshed in the anime). The movie does embellish Ken and Shin's friendship, but it really amount to nothing more than a throwaway line during the Jagi fight. In Raijin Comics' translation of Chapter 43, Ken's exact line to Jagi was "worthy rivals, I called friends" and Jagi immediately recognizes he's talking about Shin. Even in the early chapters (like in the flashback in Chapter 8), it's sort of implied that Ken and Shin were somewhat close, what with Shin knowing Ryuken as well. I'll have to check again, but it may have been the difficult-to-translate term tomo that was used in the original manga. evan1975 20:14, August 23, 2010 (UTC)
