Shuren of the Flames (炎のシュレン, Honō no Shuren) is one of the five members of the Nanto Gosha Sei. He is the leader of the Gosha Sei's Army of Flames　and practices the Gosha Enjō Ken style, a martial art which utilizes phosphorus to generate flames.

After the death of Hyūi, Shuren mobilized his Army of Flames against Ken-oh's forces in order to avenge his "brother star" and stop Ken-oh. Shuren preemptively attacked Ken-oh's army by launching innumerable arrows at them as they approached the valley. Afterward, Shuren fought against two of Ken-oh's best trained warriors before challenging the man himself. Shuren covers himself in flames and attempts to strike Ken-oh from his back, but ended up having his fist crushed, followed by his leg when he tried to kick Ken-oh. However, Shuren did not give up and decided to sacrifice his life by engulfing himself in flames and jumping onto Ken-oh. However, Shuren's attack was ineffective against Ken-oh, who proceeded to twist Shuren's neck, killing him.

In the anime series, Shuren holds a funeral pyre for his fallen comrade Hyūi by burning down his castle in order to ensure that his Crimson Army does not have a home to retreat to for his battle against Ken-oh. He fought against one of Ken-oh's invasion forces before challenging the main army itself.

In Yuria Den, Shuren is given orders by Yuria to capture Rei. When Rei was disguised as a woman, Shuren saw through his disguise and attacks head on.
