Souther was once a warm and loving child, adopted by the previous master of Nanto Hō-ōken, [[Ogai]]. However, because of Nanto Hō-ōken's [[Isshi Sōden|awful legacy]], Ogai tricked Souther into killing him in order to be surpassed by his student.
