He is harassed by Spade and his gang, only to be saved by Kenshiro. Ken and Bat accompany Misumi to his village. Afterwards, Spade attacks the place and kills Misumi in retaliation for his earlier defeat. After Spade is killed, Kenshiro buries Misumi and scatters the seed rice over Misumi's grave. In the TV series, Misumi was renamed Smith (スミス Sumisu).
