From Hokuto no Ken Encyclopedia | HnKWiki

The following is a list of fictional characters from the manga and anime franchise Fist of the North Star by Tetsuo Hara and Buronson. Characters are organized primarily by their fighting styles and allegiance whenever possible, and ordered by the story arcs where they primarily appear. All characters are from the original manga unless otherwise noted.

    Major characters[edit | edit source]

    Hokuto Shinken[edit | edit source]

    Kenshiro
The protagonist of the series. The youngest of Ryūken's adopted sons and his successor of the Hokuto Shinken style.
    Raoh
The main antagonist for the majority of the first half of the series. The eldest of Ryūken's adopted sons, also trained in Hokuto Shinken. He takes on the mantle of Ken-Ō ("Fist King"), the self-proclaimed "Conqueror of the Century's End".
    Toki (トキ)
Voiced by: Takaya Hashi (TV series), Hideyuki Tanaka (Shin Hokuto no Ken), Kenyuu Horiuchi (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series), Tetsuharu Ota (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series, as a child), Kirk Thornton (TV series, English dub)
The second of the four Hokuto brothers. A pacifist who seeks to use Hokuto Shinken as a healing art, Toki's self-made technique of Hokuto Ujō Ken (北斗有情拳, "North Star Humane Fist") is an art adept at both healing and destroying. When he kills someone with his style, his adversaries actually die while feeling great euphoria and pleasure instead of horrifying pain. According to Ken, Toki had the most elegant style of the four brothers and was favored successor to the Hokuto Shinken style. But during the war, Toki was exposed to the nuclear fallout while forced-shutting the jammed doors of the bomb shelter that Ken and Yuria were in. Toki survived for two weeks without food and water, but the nuclear exposure turned his hair white and left him terminally ill. Thus, Toki renounces the succession to the Hokuto Shinken style and becomes a wandering doctor, easing the people's ills. Toki wanders into a village full of sick people and heals everyone there. The village became known as the "Village of Miracles" and Toki becomes heralded as a miracle maker. However, Toki is taken captive by Raoh's army and imprisoned at Cassandra, while Amiba impersonates him in an attempt to tarnish Toki's reputation. Kenshiro rescues him from Cassandra and Toki joins him in his battle against Raoh. Toki and Raoh are later revealed to be actual blood brothers; Raoh and Toki were orphaned when they were children and adopted by Ryuken, who was seeking a student to train. Originally, Ryuken only trained Raoh, while Toki watched on. When a hunter killed Toki's pet dog (a parrot in the TV series), Toki demonstrates his fighting ability by pummeling the hunter relentlessly. Realizing that Toki has learned to fight by merely watching his brother, Ryuken began training Toki as well. At that point, Raoh made Toki promised that if he ever followed the wrong path, Toki will try to stop him. Toki attempts to fulfill his promise as an adult, seeking to stop Raoh from using Hokuto Shinken for his own gain. However, the now-weakened Toki is easily outclassed and defeated by Raoh. Toki later dies from his illness after a confrontation with Ryuga, a General in Raoh's army, and tells Kenshiro to "turn his sorrow into anger" before dying. Toki, along with Raoh and Kenshiro, is later revealed to be from the Land of Asura, where he has two additional blood siblings named Kaioh and Sayaka.
    Jagi (ジャギ)
Voiced by: Kouji Totani (TV series), Chikao Ohtsuka (1986 movie), David Itō (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series), Dan Woren (1986 movie, English dub)
The third of the four Hokuto brothers. Deceptive and evil. Jagi stops at nothing to win, including the use of a shotgun and hidden needles. Hideously disfigured by Kenshirō after trying to kill him, he hides his face with an iron helmet. Jagi is obsessed with destroying his younger brother and tarnishing his reputation. Persuaded Shin to abduct Yuria, and later killed Rei's parents and sold his sister into slavery, inscribing seven scars on his chest so Kenshirō would be blamed. He was killed by Kenshirō's "Four Linked Fists of Rage", as Kenshiro said "An ugly death suits you right", revealed to Kenshirō that Toki and Raoh were still alive before he exploded. Jagi is never mentioned after his death and is usually unaccounted when the Hokuto Brothers are mentioned, as many characters refer to Ken, Toki and Raoh as the "Three Hokuto Brothers" instead. Jagi was a subordinate of Ken-oh's army along with Amiba.
    Ryuken (リュウケン, Ryūken)
Voiced by: Junji Chiba (TV series, episode 5) → Ryūji Saikachi (TV series, episode 30 and onward), Kouji Totani (TV series, as a young man), Chikao Ohtsuka (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series)
The previous successor of Hokuto Shinken. Known as Kasumi Ramon in the manga Fist of the Blue Sky. He was the sifu who adopted and trained Raoh, Toki, Jagi, and Kenshirō. After choosing Kenshirō as the next successor, Ryūken was slain by Raoh, largely by chance, as he suffered a temporary heart attack just when he was about to seal Raoh's fist after failing to prevent his misuse of Hokuto Shinken. Kenshirō did not know the real cause of Ryūken's death, having been told that Ryūken died from illness, until Toki revealed the shameful secret during their first battle. Both Kenshirō and Raoh remember a lot of Ryūken's teachings whenever they are in difficult situations. He makes a few cameo appearances in Fist of the Blue Sky as an adult during the 1970's and a child in 1935.
    Koryu (コウリュウ, Kōryū)
    Voiced by: Hidekatsu Shibata
Koryu studied Hokuto Shinken with Ryūken his old rival, but yielded the succession despite having the stronger style to avoid having the tragic fate of death shared by multiple Hokuto Shinken martial artists. He is also known as the "Hokuto Dragon." To prevent any knowledge regarding his martial art to be passed on, Kōryū led an ascetic life in the mountains, but was later sought out and killed by Raoh. He had two sons named Zeus and Aus who were spared by Raoh who told not to seek the same tragic path as Raoh and Toki.

Nanto Roku Seiken[edit | edit source]

The Nanto Roku Seiken (南斗六聖拳, "The Six Sacred Fists of the South Star") are the six top masters of Nanto Seiken (南斗聖拳, "Sacred Fist of the South Star") among the 108 branches. Each of them has a fate linked to a certain star in the Nanto Rokusei (南斗六星, "The Six Stars of the South Dipper" going by the literal meaning of "Nanto") constellation, aka the Milk Dipper (part of Sagittarius in Western astrology). Yuda betrayed the Six Sacred Fists and joined Raoh's army; after this, the fates of the other Nanto masters turned tragic. Each of the Nanto Roku Seiken (with the exception of Yuria) is affiliated with an avian totem: Eagle, Swan, Crane, Heron and Phoenix.

    Shin (シン)
Voiced by: Toshio Furukawa (TV series), Takuya Kirimoto (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series) Steven Blum (TV series, English dub), Michael McConnohie (1986 movie, English dub)
Style: Nanto Koshūken (南斗孤鷲拳, "South Star Lone Eagle Fist"; unnamed in the original manga and anime)
Star: Jun-sei (殉星, "Star of Sacrifice or Martyrdom").
Notable for being the first major antagonist in the series, Shin was Kenshiro's rival, who loved Yuria from afar. However, Kenshiro's wicked brother Jagi manipulated Shin into taking Yuria for himself, as he claimed Kenshiro was too weak. Following this, Shin engaged Kenshiro and defeated him, engraving the seven Big Dipper-shaped stab wounds onto his chest, and abducting Yuria. Shin adopted the honorific "King" and amassed an empire to win Yuria's favour, culminating in constructing the city Southern Cross. Yuria could not handle the innocents suffering in her name, and attempted suicide from the palace balcony in an effort to end Shin's infatuation. In fact, Yuria's life was miraculously saved by the Nanto Goshasei, who united to protect her from Raoh's imminent arrival. Shin reluctantly entrusted Yuria to their custody, and awaited his destined battle with Kenshiro. During Yuria's absence, he keeps a life-like mannequin of Yuria's likeness in her throne. The vengeful Kenshiro meets Shin and having already fought Shin in the past, sees through his techniques, eventually finishing Shin off with the Hokuto Jūjizan (North Star Cross Kill), inscribing Shin's emblem of the Bloody Cross on his chest. Refusing to die from Kenshiro's technique, Shin leaps to his death, maintaining that Yuria had died. Despite Shin's earlier betrayal, Kenshiro prepares a grave for him recognizing their kindred love for the same woman. The writers of the TV series extended Shin's role in the story by making him the main antagonist for the first season of the series. His subordinates in the TV series includes not only the four lieutenants of the King army from the original manga, but also the Golan commandos and Jackal's gang (which were the immediate villains after Shin's death in the manga), as well as several original villains, notably Joker and Barcom. In the episode prior to the final battle between Shin and Kenshiro, General Barcom leads a mutiny against Shin, leading to the destruction of Southern Cross, as well as the dissolution of the King organization. In the 1986 movie, Shin is challenged by Raoh, who invades Southern Cross to use Yuria as bait for Kenshiro. When Kenshiro finally makes it to Southern Cross, Shin dies from the Hokuto Shinken wounds inflicted by his off-screen defeat to Raoh.
Rei (レイ, transliterated as "Ray" in the Viz's English edition)
Voiced by: Kaneto Shiozawa (TV series), Isshin Chiba (Fist of the North Star arcade game), Shinichiro Miki (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series)
Style: Nanto Suichōken (南斗水鳥拳, "South Star Waterfowl Fist")
Star: Gi-sei (義星, "Star of Justice")
Rei's parents were slain and his sister kidnapped by a man with seven scars on his chest (actually Jagi). He was hired as a mercenary by the Fang Tribe to attack Mamiya's village, however, he betrayed them, sensing the noble purpose in Kenshirō. Working together, the two of them and Mamiya were able to eliminate the Fang King and recover Rei's sister Airi. He is the first one to meet Raoh, while trying to save Lin and Airi during an attack of Raoh's Invasion Division. Sensing Raoh's immense power, he decides to fight him in order to repay Ken for giving him back his humanity. He uses a special technique, which empowers him to defeat his opponent while sacrificing his own life. But Raoh sees through it and defeats Rei, who is left with three days to live in pain and agony. Before he dies, though, he is able to kill Yuda, who had kidnapped his love Mamiya years ago and scarred her with his personal mark. Tetsuo Hara admitted that Rei is one of his favourite supporting character and that it was a difficulty for him to work on Rei's agonizing three days of life.Template:Fact Rei's death was portrayed in a respectful way in which we don't really see graphical explosion of him as happened to any common thugs killed by Hokuto Shinken. He appears as a support character in Jump Ultimate Stars and is the star of his own spinoff manga, Rei Gaiden. He plays a prominent role in the OVA Yuria Den, where he meets the Last General of Nanto (Yuria) while seeking his sister's kidnapper. Yuria tells Rei to seek a man named Kenshiro, who would help him in his quest. Later in the movie, a dying Rei gives a locket of his hair to Toki, whom he then gives to the Last General as a token of Rei's gratitude for helping him meet Kenshiro.
Yuda (ユダ, also transliterated as "Juda" and named after Judas Iscariot)
    Voiced by: Bin Shimada
Style: Nanto Kōkakuken (南斗紅鶴拳, "South Star Crimson Crane Fist")
Star: Yō-sei (妖星, "Star of Enchantment or Beauty"), also known as the Star of Betrayal (裏切りの星, Uragiri no Hoshi).
The traitor of the Nanto Roku Seiken. After the nuclear war, Yuda broke up the Nanto Roku Seiken by joining Raoh's army along with 27 subordinate branches (it is later revealed he was manipulated by Souther into doing so). Vain and treacherous, Yuda keeps a concubine of female slaves that worship his beauty and is more than willing to sacrifice his own underlings for his own gain. In the past, he kidnapped Mamiya on her 20th birthday, killing her parents before her eyes and making her part of her concubine before she eventually escaped. He fights Rei, who sought to avenge her honor. Yuda has been envious of Rei prior to the war, feeling that the beauty of Rei's Suichōken style was overshadowing his Kōkakuken style. After he is defeated by Rei, he stabs himself with Rei's hands so he could die "by someone beautiful like him." At his death, he concedes that Rei is more beautiful.
Shuh (シュウ, Shū, also transliterated "Shew" and "Syuh")
Voiced by: Katsuji Mori (TV series), Hōchū Ōtsuka (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series)
Style: Nanto Hakuroken (南斗白鷺拳, "South Star White Heron Fist")
Star: Jin-sei (仁星, "Star of Benevolence")
Rebel leader and a friend of Rei. Originally Shuh was Souther's second-in-command, but was awakened to his destiny by a young Kenshirō. When Kenshirō was ten, Raoh brought him to the Nanto Temple for a test of his worthiness. Kenshirō would defeat ten Nanto warriors or die in the attempt. Sensing that Kenshirō reacted to his ki, Shū volunteered himself as the tenth opponent and handily defeated the boy. When Souther demanded his death, Shū refused and instead clawed out his own eyes, carrying Kenshirō from the temple. Shū taught himself to see with his heart, and later leads a resistance movement against Souther. Shū's son Shiva, who Shū did not want taking part in his tragic destiny, dies saving Kenshirō from Souther after his defeat. Later, Shū's hideout is raided, and Shū allows himself to be tormented and slain to protect his young charges. During his final moment, he miraculously recovers his eyesight and sees the grown Kenshirō for the first and final time. When Souther is defeated, the summit of the pyramid (where Shū died) leaks out Shū's blood, showing that the Benevolent Star wept even for someone as evil as Souther.
Souther (サウザー, Sauzā, also transliterated "Thouzer" and "Thouther")
Voiced by: Banjō Ginga (TV series), Akio Ōtsuka (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series)
Style: Nanto Hō-ōken (南斗鳳凰拳, "South Star Phoenix Fist)
Star: Shō-sei (将星, "Star of Leadership or Command"), also known as Kyoku-sei (極星, "Pole Star") and Minami-jūji-sei (南十字星, "Southern Cross Star").
Shō-sei rules the other Nanto stars; therefore, none of the other Nanto arts can defeat Souther implying that he is the strongest of the Nanto fighters. Souther establishes himself as Seitei (聖帝, "Holy Emperor") after Raoh's injury and becomes known as a cruel and heartless man, kidnapping children to build his Holy Cross Mausoleum. Souther was once warm and loving child, adopted by the wise master of Nanto Hō-ōken, Ogai. However, because of Nanto Hō-ōken's awful legacy, Ogai tricked Souther into killing him in order to be surpassed by his student. Souther was devastated by his master's death, and crushed his emotions with hate and cruelty. After meeting Shū, Kenshirō fights against Souther and loses horribly when Hokuto Shinken does not work on Souther's body. After Shū's death, he fights Souther again and is able to discover that Souther has situs inversus dextrocardia-- his heart is on his right side and his pressure points' positions are subsequently reversed from where a normal person's would be. He defeats Souther with a merciful "Ujō Moshō Ha", much to his surprise. Despite his tyranny, he is shocked that Kenshirō displayed mercy towards him. He then dies in front of Ogai's shrine, regaining his humanity. In the movie Raō Den: Jun'ai no Shō, his death scene is different than in the manga or TV series; there is no reference to his sensei Ogai or the motive behind the pyramid, also the scene where he embraces his sensei's body is omitted. Instead, he commits suicide by stabbing himself with his fist, refusing to die by Hokuto Shinken.
Yuria (ユリア, also transliterated as "Yulia" and "Julia")
Voiced by: Yuriko Yamamoto (TV series), Midori Matsuo (Legend of Heroes CG movie), Yuriko Ishida (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series), Melissa Williamson (TV series, English dub), Melodee Spevack (1986 movie, English dub)
Star: Jibo-sei (慈母星, "Star of the Merciful Mother")
Kenshiro's fiancée, Yuria's beauty and compassion saw her loved by many men such as Shin, Toki, Raoh and even her half-brother Jyuza. Yuria is descended from the Rightful Nanto Bloodline and although she has no martial arts skills, she is shown to have empathic abilities. In the beginning of the series, a jealous Shin attempts to take her by force after defeating Kenshiro. Yuria agrees to become Shin's lover, but only under the condition Shin would spare the life of the wounded Kenshiro. However, Yuria remains faithful to Kenshiro and does not reciprocate Shin's attempts to win her affection as he expands his empire to impress her. Ultimately, Yuria is unable to tolerate the atrocities Shin commits in her name and attempts to take her own life by jumping off the roof of Shin's palace at Southern Cross. Later in the series, it is revealed she actually survived thanks to the intervention of the Nanto Goshasei, who as guardians of the Nanto Bloodline are sworn to protect Yuria's life. After the deaths of the other Nanto Roku Seiken masters, she shows up as the Last General of Nanto and orders the Goshasei against Raoh, while she awaits Kenshiro's arrival at the Nanto Capital. As Raoh defeats each of the Goshasei, he eventually learns the Last General's identity and rushes to the Nanto Capital to seize Yuria. Raoh takes Yuria to his castle, only to discover that she is dying from the same kind of radiation poisoning that took away Toki's life. This sadness enables him to use the Musō Tensei against Kenshiro. After Raoh gives his life to the heavens, Ken and Yuria are reunited leave together, eventually settling in Shoki's village. Yuria eventually dies of her illness and tells Kenshiro to live on without her. Yuria is the central character in the 2007 OVA Yuria Den, which depicts how she became the Last General of Nanto. She was also given her own spinoff manga titled Yuria Gaiden.

    Nanto Goshasei[edit | edit source]

The Nanto Goshasei (南斗五車星, "The Five Chariot Stars of the South Dipper") are the sworn guardians of the Last Nanto General. The stars of Goshasei correspond to the constellation Auriga, the Charioteer (馭者座, Gyoshaza) and each of the five members represent the following elements: Wind (, ), Cloud (, Un), Fire (, En), Mountain (, Zan), and Sea (, Kai). The Goshasei are not counted among the 108 branches of Nanto Seiken.

Hyui of the Wind (風のヒューイ, Kaze no Hyūi)
Voiced by: Kazuyuki Sogabe, Hiroshi Tsuchida (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series)
One of the five Nanto Goshasei and leader of the Wind Army. Hyui meets Kenshiro (in the TV series, not in the manga), informing him that the Nanto Goshasei would come after him and Raoh. Hyui challenges Raoh, only to be destroyed with one punch.
Shuren of the Flames (炎のシュレン, Honō no Shuren)
Voiced by: Norio Wakamoto, Nobuyuki Hiyama (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series)
Another one of the five Nanto Goshasei Generals and leader of the Red Army. Shuren wishes to avenge Hyūi's (his brother star) death at the hands of Raoh, and he shows his commitment to this cause by lighting a funeral pyre for Hyūi which also burns down his castle, leaving him and the Red Army with no home and only a desire to fight Raoh. He, as his name suggests, has the ability to control and manipulate fire, using it in such moves as the Gosha Enjō Ken (五車炎情拳, Five Chariots Passionate Flame Fist). Shuren confronts Raoh and his army during a march in a valley, but is swiftly defeated by the much more powerful Raoh. Shuren shows his anger over Hyui's death and his devotion to last Nanto General. Shuren tries one final, self-immolating attack which, after being countered by Raoh leaves him burnt to a crisp. After this, Raoh wonders how anyone could have such a burning devotion to The Last General of Nanto Roku Seiken
Fudoh of the Mountains (山のフドウ, Yama no Fudō)
Voiced by: Shōzō Iizuka, Daisuke Gōri (Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu movie series)
A giant Nanto Goshasei fighter. Fudō was once a terrible outlaw known as "Fudoh the Ogre" (悪鬼のフドウ, Akki no Fudō). Fudō attacked the Hokuto dojo and terrified the young Raoh. But a very young Yuria stood up to him, risking her life to save some puppies from Fudoh's rampage. Fudoh learned from her courage that life is the most important thing on earth. Fudoh the Ogre became Fudoh of the Mountains, one of the five Nanto Goshasei; the guardians of Yuria. Once an orphan himself, Fudoh also took care of orphaned children. After trembling in the presence of Kenshiro's Musō Tensei, Raoh decided to eliminate the first person who ever frightened him, and challenged Fudoh to battle. Raoh ordered his own men to shoot him if he took a step back. Fudoh was able to make him do so, but Raoh's men shot Fudoh instead and killed him. "Fudoh" is Japanese for Acala.
Juza of the Clouds (雲のジュウザ, Kumo no Jūza)
    Voiced by: Yoshito Yasuhara
Juza's self-styled martial art is the best of the Goshasei. Juza had grown up with Yuria and wished to marry her, but his dreams were crushed when he learned she was his half-sister from the same father. As a result, he fell into a carefree life of promiscuity. A free-spirited type, Juza did not wish to fight Raoh for the sake of the Last of the Nanto Roku Seiken until he learned that she was Yuria. Juza and Raoh have known each other since childhood, Juza usually getting the best of Raoh, quickly angering him. Ryuken then told Raoh that Juza was good of a fighter as he was. Juza was actually able to briefly take Kokuoh-Go from Raoh, which was a first. Raoh sits down on a boulder and refuses to move until his horse comes back. Eventually Jyuza comes back to fight Raoh, and Juza gives Raoh a tough fight. Raoh proves to be too strong and eventually Juza is hit with a fatal blow. Juza falls on his back apparently dead. As Raoh begins to walk away, Juza's body leaps up for one last attack which Raoh blocks. Before Raoh counterattacks however, he realizes that Juza is already dead and that his body was still trying to attack, so he lets Juza's body fall to the ground lifeless. Raoh, comments to himself, "Juza truly was terrible" in respect for the tough battle Juza gave him. Juza is the only member of the Goshasei whose presence was omitted from the Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu film series. His battle with Raoh was omitted in Raoh Den: Gekitō no Shō and Rei essentially serves Jyuza's role in Yuria Den.
Rihaku of the Ocean (海のリハク, Umi no Rihaku)
Voiced by: Takeshi Aono, Katsuhisa Houki (2007)
Military General of the Goshasei. Attempts to save Yuria from Raoh by first setting multiple traps to slow him down, then fight him hand to hand. He loses the fight but does not die, as Kenshiro comes to his rescue. He bears witness to Kenshiro's first use of the Musō Tensei technique, the ultimate technique of Hokuto Shinken. Rikahu later becomes the elder statesman of Lin and Bat's "Hokuto Army" after Ken leaves with Yuria. "Rihaku" is Japanese for Li Bai. In the original TV series, he is shown to be Yuria's caretaker since childhood. However, the OVA Yuria Den shows that Yuria did not met Rihaku until after she was rescued by the Goshasei from Southern Cross.
    Toh (トウ, )
Voiced by: Mika Doi, Yuko Kaida (2007)
Rihaku's daughter. Toh fell in love with Raoh after he saved her from a pack of hungry wolves when Toh was a child. After posing as the Last Nanto General in Yuria's place, she professes her feelings for Raoh, but kills herself when Raoh rejects her in favor of Yuria.
    Shion (シオン)
    Voiced by: Keiichi Nanba
The younger brother of Hyui. Second-in-command of the Wind Army. Appears only in the TV series. He witnesses Hyui's death at the hands of Raoh and retreats to the Nanto Capital to inform Rihaku of Hyui's death, but is mortally injured by Raoh's troops on the way and dies upon reaching his destination.

    Gento Kōken[edit | edit source]

    Falco (ファルコ, Faruko)
    Voiced by: Hideyuki Tanaka
The Golden General. The strongest successor of Gento Kōken. Although Jakoh orders him to kill the Hokuto and Nanto fighters in the name of the Celestial Empress, he is an honorable man. When the Empress is discovered alive, he turns against Jakō and kills him. His right leg is a prosthetic, the original was offered to Raoh to convince him to leave the imperial capital alone. Later on, when fighting Falco, Kenshirō disables one of his own legs to even their fight. He pursues the kidnapped Lin to the Land of Asura, but dies after fighting the Nameless Asura. Prior to dying, he receives news that his wife Myū is pregnant with his child.
    Solia (ソリア, Soria)
    Voiced by: Michihiro Ikemizu
The General of the Purple Light. One of Falco's proteges, he seeks out and challenges Kenshiro. In the past, he lost an eye in a sparring match with Falco. In the TV series, he is the one who kills the Elder of Mamiya's village.
    Shoki (ショウキ, Shōki)
    Voiced by: Tessho Genda
The General of the Red Light. An old friend of Falco's, who despises Jakou's actions after taking the throne. When Ken and Yuria set out after Raoh's death, Shoki allowed them to live in his home village after Ken saved it from bandits. He encounters Ken again as a Gento Fighter. Ken defeats him but doesn't kill him because he didn't sense within Shoki; he also thanks him for giving Yuria her final resting place. Later, he attempts to kill Jakoh, after having enough of his corruption towards Falco and the rest of the Gento, and is seemingly killed by Falco in a ruse; afterwards, Falco told him to escape the Tentei. Shieno (Boltz in the TV series) sees through the ruse and pierces Shoki with his spear. Shoki dies after seeing Kenshiro one last time begging Kenshiro to defeat the Tentei as it has become evil.
    Boltz (ボルツ, Borutsu)
    Voiced by: Yōsuke Akimoto
The General of the Blue Light. A renegade Gento warrior under the service of Jakoh. He is responsible for the death Shoki. Boltz appears only in the TV series, serving as a substitute for the character Shieno (Jakoh's younger son) in the original manga.
    Taiga (タイガ)
    Voiced by: Masaharu Satō
The General of the Green Light. Another renegade Gento warrior who is also under Jakoh's service. After Jakoh's defeat, Taiga kidnaps Lin and takes her to the Land of Asura with the intent of selling her off, only to be butchered by the warriors in Asura. Like Boltz, Taiga only appears in the TV series, replacing the character Jask (Jakoh's elder son) in the original manga.

    Hokuto Ryūken[edit | edit source]

    Kaioh (カイオウ, Kaiō)
    Voiced by: Kenji Utsumi
The First Rashō (羅将, a term which loosely means "General of Asura" or "Warlord") that rules over the Land of Asura. He is sometime referred as the Creator of the New Century (新世紀創造, Shin Seiki Sōzōshu) or the Demon Kaioh (魔神カイオウ, Majin Kaiō). At first, his face is concealed in an iron helmet, but later he removes, revealing that he bears a striking resemblance to Raoh, but with an "x"-shaped scar that covers his face. He is in fact the long-lost older brother of Raoh and Toki, who remained in Asura while his two brothers left the country with Ken. He wears a special armor that keeps his demonic aura focused. He hates the Hokuto Sōke ruling line and all it stands for, due to the fact that he was forced by Jukei to lose his sparring matches with Hyoh as a child to encourage him, despite the fact that Kaioh was a more gifted fighter himself. Kaioh began losing his humanity when his mother sacrificed her life to save a baby Kenshiro from a burning building. Because of the immense pain of his mother's loss, Kaioh vowed to never feel emotions again. To accomplish this goal, Kaioh began cutting or stabbing himself whenever he felt sadness as a form of negative reinforcement. Because of this, Kaioh ended up with countless scars all over his body as an adult. In Kaioh is the last major antagonist in the manga and Kenshiro's final opponent in the TV series. Ken strikes him with the Hokuto Ujo Ken, so that Kaioh won't feel pain before he dies. Kaioh then proceeds to bury himself together with Hyoh into a flux of lava creating a statue of him holding Hyo in his arms.
Hyoh (ヒョウ, Hyō, also transliterated as "Hyou")
    Voiced by: Shinji Ogawa
The Second Rashō and Kenshiro's biological older brother. As a child, he entrusted Raoh to protect the baby Kenshiro when they were leaving the country, while Hyoh remained in Asura to learn Hokuto Ryūken. Hyoh was infused with knowledge of the original Hokuto Sōke no Ken style as a child, but Hyoh refused to use this style, preferring for Kenshiro to learn it in his place. Because of Hyoh's compassion for his brother, Jukei attempted to erase his memory of Kenshiro to prevent his weakness, leaving a small x-shaped scar across his forehead, an event that Jukei would regret for doing. In reality, Hyoh only pretended to have his memory erased from Jukei, and it was a young Kaioh who actually erased Hyoh's memories after finding out the truth.
